/The captain of the Glen Mona darts team drops by with his wife.
When I last saw him a fortnight ago, we had a close call against the Laxey yacht club with the scores tied after the individual rounds. He did not put himself in the doubles. “They got themselves into this mess, and they have to get themselves out of it.”
I congratulate him on the team’s 8-1 thrashing of a Ramsey pub last Monday.
“Did you play?” I ask innocently.
“Yes, I won, but it was against a woman.”
His wife gives him a sharp look, and we both know that the ice is thin.
“Have you ever lost to a woman?”
“Aye” he said, “it has happened.”
Drilling an exploration well is always a tense time for those involved in it, even the lawyers and contracts specialists whose contribution is usually finished before the well is begun. . .
